The University of New Mexico received $4M in 2019 from the NIH Office of the Director, to construct a new core facility devoted to substance abuse disorder and brain injury.

  • 2019 Life Science R&D Expenditures: $148,618,000
  • Ranked 91st in Life Science R&D Expenditures 
  • 2020 Total NIH funding: $83,109,491
  • The Clinical and Translational Science Institute at UNM received a $3.9M support grant from the NIH in 2020.  The Institute has received $21.7M in NIH funding since 2015.
  • UNM researchers received $2.7M from the NIH in 2020, to study how pTau proteins drive local and chronic neuroinflammation.  The project has received $4.1M in NIH funding since 2014.
  • Researchers at UNM received $2.6M from the NIH in 2020, to evaluate the pathology of small vessel disease and determine the mechanisms associated with the progression the disease.
